To be fair it was as intended to be back then. Opened and played with. There were no investor bros and psa 10 slabs selling for hundreds of thousands. Just a kids game as it should be

I remember a toy shop opening as a kid locally. Went bust after about a year. They had a huge clearance bin full of jungle boosters for $0.50 each. My mum bought a few as rewards but my brother got them all.

As someone that collected back then, this wasn’t the norm. This is a fire sale when the Neo era was approaching its end and almost everyone had lost interest in Pokemon TCG – kids being kids, if you had started collecting with Base Set, this was two years after the peak frenzy had passed and almost everyone had moved on.
Chances are, back then you didn’t see these kind of crazy deals because you weren’t interested in Pokemon TCG anymore. This is pure nostalgia baiting.
In elementary school I used to walk to the Allsup’s in my neighborhood and get a pack of Fossil and a Beef and Bean Burrito with the change I found laying around the house.

I’ll never forget the time when my mom worked at Walmart when I was a kid and she took me to the security office and there was a box on the floor, a big ass box just stuffed to the brim with base set packs.
Thousands of them like they had just been thrown in there and the security guy said I could have as many as I could grab with 1 hand. I don’t remember how many packs i was able to get. That was my first set of packs I ever opened and I Pulled a Charizard that I still have to this day.
